“Sunshine” – Jonathan Edwards
This guy was a real anti-war, el protesto living in a song writer co-op in the early
’70s. From what he says about it the song ‘just kinda came out’ and he went with
it. He performed it on the steps of the Washington Monument at a protest rally
and it stuck. Evidently there was a mistake made in the studio while recording
one of his records and another song was erased. This song had been hanging
around so it was used to plug the hole created. Edwards was never interested in
doing things ‘just for the money’. He was more moved to ‘say something with his
guitar’ so his record contract vanished for not delivering more hits. He had a well
loved collaboration with Emmy Lou Harris in 1975. Last time I looked he was still
out playing his songs.
